After a short break from recording The Green Pajamas’, FOREVER FOR A LITTLE WHILE, Jeff continues to gain inspiration from Chinese television shows and Asian movies - their light being bent through a pint glass of blue psychedelia and mixed with some heavy romantic longing. There are modern and ancient musical influences here as well as sound bytes found via the YouTube commons.

Jeff states: “The original title of this thing was going to be BLACK AND WHITE RAIN as I thought it was going to be mostly quiet and moody. Then I wrote some other songs. ’Changge’ was inspired by the Chinese series, ‘The Long Ballad.’ ‘Forever’ 1 and 2 are inspired by the current state of things and the desire to get away to some happier place or planet. ‘While I Wonder About You’ is my ode to the 2018 film, LONG DAYS JOURNEY INTO NIGHT. ‘Blue’ is an old song, written in the 1980’s, after I read an article in ISLANDS magazine about Micronesia; I just took all of the details and turned them into a love story. ‘Another Morning Breaking on the Storm’ is a Sci-Fi, End-Of-Time fantasy thing, about flying into some apocalyptic battle with an army of mermaids as allies - written entirely sober, BTW. ‘Black and White Rain’ is just a little mood piece, inspired by old Japanese movies. ‘Anju’ was written after seeing Mizoguchi’s, SANSHO THE BAILIFF, and ‘Mizoguchi Lake’ is a musical meditation on the countless haunting images in that film and others from that great director. ‘Mystery Girl’ was recorded after I watched another Chinese series, PRINCESS AGENTS, though song itself dates back to around 1980. Maybe that’s why Susanne thinks it sounds a bit New Wave…”
